Mary Bartlett is in her tenth year as the director’s and financial secretary here at Boulevard Academy. She enjoys working in alternative education, which she had no experience in until accepting her position here. “Alternative education is so important,” she said. “It gives students a second chance to finish high school even if they have had earlier problems.”
A farm girl all her life, Mary helped pay for college by working for LOOK magazine, making an amazing 96 cents an hour! Through the years she has seen many, many changes and held a myriad of jobs. She has worked as a surgical nurse’s aide, a school bus driver, an executive secretary, and an office manager. She and her husband Mike, a long-haul trucker, spent several years on the road together, working for John Deere while traveling the United States.
A horseback rider all her life, Mary has won many awards, including a national championship for Open Jumping. Mary and Mike are also Appaloosa horse breeders. It was through this business that Mary met B.A. science teacher Angela Siemer. They have spent hours of fun and hard work in this shared hobby.
In her spare time, Mary enjoys reading, embroidering, and sports of all kinds. She believes in living every single day to its fullest and making a difference in the lives of others.
